Marathons displayed using Exhibit
I have been playing with beautiful Exhibit project from Simile framework recently. The direction in web development is clear: get rid of textual lists, visualize them using maps, timeline, etc. I have already created News on a Timeline, a library of research papers.
Here is a list of marathons in Finland in 2008. I have created a mashup Marathons in Finland 2008 that displays this information on a timeline and on a map. The Exhibit project allows to filter the results out depending on the time. For example, you can see only those marathons that take place in April using the right-hand side control.
Of course, this project is not finished yet. Here is a list of marathons in the world in 2008. It is only a few hundred of entries long.
